Family business since 1980

Like Binghay & Co, ARJ Tooling is a family business that has been around since the 1980s. With the factory based in the northern suburbs of Victoria, they specialise in metal stamping & machining, manufacturing components for a wide range of industries, ranging from the Australian Defence Force to commercial food manufacturing to construction and more in their Campbellfield workshop. 

What started as a husband-and-wife operation with basic machinery, established almost 40 years by Tony and Theresa Villella, Italian and Chinese Malaysian migrants with dreams to prosper and thrive in the manufacturing industry. Since then, after many ups and downs, the business has now grown to welcome the second generation of the Villella family, Tony’s son Bryan and his wife Colleen, who are now at the helm of the day-to-day running of the company.

“ARJ Tooling went through the wars so to speak when the recession hit in the late 80s and early 90s. It was extremely difficult for Tony and Theresa and we would have wished they had the assistance we do today, so it was really important for us to partner with someone like Ces from Binghay & Co, who’s able to guide us through difficult and challenging times,” Colleen Villella, Operations Manager of ARJ Tooling, says. 

“And now, with the Covid-19 pandemic, we instantly turned to Ces to assist us in going through the types of business grants that are available and how to access the JobKeeper scheme for our employees. We really wouldn’t know what to do without her.”       

Today, ARJ Tooling continues to flourish, continually providing high-quality metal parts and components for their Australian and international customers. It is a business, Tony and Theresa Villella, now both 71 and semi-retired, could only be proud of.
